This is a plain first version of our terms. We are preparing a fuller set and will post the update on this page when it is ready.

1. About Bowo

Bowo is a gifting app. It helps you keep track of what the people you buy for actually want, so gifts land and nobody unwraps the same thing twice. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.

2. Who can use Bowo

You must be 18 or older to use Bowo. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up, and accounts that do not meet this requirement are closed.

3. Your account

You sign in with a one time code texted to your mobile number. There is no password. Keep that number secure, because anyone who can read its messages can sign in as you. Accounts created before Bowo moved to phone sign in keep working while they are still signed in, and add a verified number when Bowo asks. Once a number is added, it signs into that same account from then on. An older account that signs out before adding a number cannot be reached again, and signing in with a number creates a new one. You are responsible for activity under your account.

4. What you put into Bowo

You choose what to add: interests, gift ideas, sizes, a birthday, photos of things you already own, and events you want people to know about. Friends whose requests you accept can see the parts of your profile that help them buy for you. You can edit or remove any of it at any time, and you can delete your account and its data from Settings.

5. Messages we send

Bowo sends push notifications about your friends, your events and the gifts you are buying, and email about your account. You can turn push notifications off in your phone's settings, and marketing email stays off unless you switch it on in Settings. Text messages are covered separately in section 6.

6. Text messages

Bowo sends text messages in two situations, and no others. The first is a one-time verification code, sent only when you type your own phone number into the app and ask us to verify it: a transactional message about your account, not marketing, one message per request. The second is event texts: an invitation when a Bowo user picks your number from their contacts, or picks you from their friends on Bowo, for an event they are hosting, naming them as the person inviting you, and updates about that event. If you are picked as a friend, the invitation goes to the number you verified when you signed up.

You receive one invitation for each event you are picked for, and texts about an event beyond its invitation only if you respond to it. We keep a record of which numbers each event's invitation has gone to and who sent it, checked before any message goes out, and we do not clear that record when you delete your account. Reply STOP to any message to stop every text from Bowo, for both kinds of message, or HELP for help. We never turn them back on ourselves. If you want messages again, reply START. Message and data rates may apply, delivery depends on your mobile carrier, and carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. A verified phone number is required to hold a Bowo account, and it is the way you sign in.

Only invite people you actually know and who would expect to hear from you about the occasion. Sending an invitation needs the number itself, so the number of a person you pick from your contacts is sent to us and used only to send that event's messages and to record that it was sent. When you pick a friend on Bowo, nothing is read from your contacts; we already hold the number they verified. We do not sell your mobile information, and we do not share it with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

7. Gift recommendations and shopping links

Bowo suggests gifts based on what people tell us they like and already own. Suggestions are suggestions. We do not guarantee that an item is in stock, correctly priced, or right for the person receiving it. Prices and availability come from third parties and change often, so check the retailer's own page before you buy.

Bowo takes part in the Amazon Associates program. Some links to Amazon in the app may earn us a commission if you buy. This costs you nothing extra and does not change what we recommend.

8. Privacy

We collect what the app needs in order to work, and we do not sell your personal information. Photos you take in the capture flow have faces blurred on your device before the image leaves it. The privacy notice inside the app explains what we collect and why, and it forms part of these terms.

9. Fair use

Do not use Bowo to harass anyone, to send messages people have not asked for, to copy or scrape our catalogue, to break the law, or to interfere with the service. We may suspend or close an account that does.

10. Other companies

Bowo runs on services from other companies, including hosting, messaging, and analytics providers, and it links out to retailers. We are not responsible for their content or their terms.

11. Availability and changes

Bowo is early software and is offered as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available or free of faults. We may change or withdraw features, and we may update these terms. When we make a material change we will post it here and update the date at the top of this page.

12. Liability

So far as the law allows, Bowo is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for a gift that disappoints. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
